Blessed Arrival

I'm officially an aunt.

Photobucket
And I think I broke my phone on Wednesday with the number of texts and phone calls between me and my mother as she was bedside with my laboring sister, then my baby sis and me, then relaying the information to friends and husbands...ridiculous...it was a busy day.

Photobucket
But totally worth it.

This baby is beautiful! Addison Lynn.

And she has some pretty proud parents.
Photobucket

Photobucket
So Chris bought cigars all around to celebrate.

Photobucket
Boys will be boys, I guess.

Photobucket
But we sisters sure love those boys. And Addie.

Photobucket
Seriously, who wouldn't swoon over this sweetness?

Photobucket
Her mother sure does.
What a blessing.

You know you're a parent when...

As my own sister labors with her first little one at this very moment, and my own little nugget is nestled away with too high of a fever for her mommy to leave her today...I realize that I have reached the point of realizing when I have truly become a parent.

You see it's not just when the bundle is tucked into your aching arms for the first time. Not just when the first rustle of blankets in the nursery causes you to leap from slumber and whisk the baby into the rocking chair. Not even when you cheer and coo and clap at the first glimmer of a gas bubble that happens to remotely resemble a small smile. No, it wasn't when the first night of uninterrupted sleep is interrupted only by your own inability to break the routine of peeking into the crib just to wonder at the up and down coziness of your child's midnight breathing. Not just when your camera card fills within one un-holiday weekend just because your dear one was just too cute for words.

Photobucket

No...dear friends...it's when you start counting your child's age in increments otherwise unnoticed, unhonored, unappreciated by society causing weakly masked frustration by all surrounding when you answer how old your child is with some crazy addition of days, weeks or months...

Yes...I am there.

And still it continues...

But the best is yet to come.

Sweets

I made the mistake of taking my husband with me to the grocery store.

Photobucket
I ended up with these. Seriously? Who even eats Funfetti except for seven year-olds? Oh...that's right...my husband.

However, I did get little Ellie to help me whip them up. That made the $1.97 totally worth it.

Photobucket
But mostly because I wanted pictures of her in her sweet apron.

Photobucket
But she's not quite big enough to stand on a stool and stir, or even sit at the table and help, so...the cookies were made on the floor...

Photobucket

Side note - we are finishing up a trial of a photo editing program...did nothing but whet my appetite for creativity and photography...just look at the tricks it can do!

Photobucket
Maybe someday.

Photobucket
However, nothing makes this dimple any cuter than it is. It just is.

Photobucket
Or those lashes any longer. They just are.

Photobucket
And props to Nana for the cutest apron ever.

Then it was time to ice these Funfettis.

Photobucket

Photobucket
She's a natural.

Especially at this.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The best part of this whole story?

During this whole first mommy-daughter experience, my hubby dear was hanging a punching bag in the basement. So after cooking lessons with mommy...punching lessons with daddy....

Photobucket

In an apron.
Photobucket

Photobucket
That's our girl.

Photobucket
Pound it El. That's right..she's fly.

And last side note?
I did my first load of little boy clothes this weekend and packed them away into nursery drawers.
Photobucket
Loving the fact that I have eight weeks left.

One Year Ago

It's another snow day here.

Photobucket

One that finds my family asleep downstairs, tucked away in the covers while blessed pregnancy hormones wake me up every morning easily by six. Really, though, six is nothin'. It's the midnight, two, and four o'clock wake ups that get a little wearing... So here I sit with my cup of coffee and the blog post that I've tried to write with just the right words.

One year ago this week I simply wrote that after going in to hear the sweet baby's heartbeat nestled in my tummy, we found that he or she had passed away. I've thought a lot about this over the last few days.

In all reality, this day encompassed one of the biggest fears of my life. Then, setting my alarm for four a.m. Wednesday morning to take the medication to start my body's process so that the procedure would be easier in a few hours. Walking into the hospital just an hour later. Just Chris and me. The silence and cold of the morning. Filling out the forms and repeating to the five different doctors that, yes, I was there for a D&C. I didn't think these things happened to me. Tears upon tears with every nurse who came in to start the IVs, all with my precious husband beside me, unable to do anything but hold me. And it not really helping. His hurt. Then the dear elderly woman who volunteered at the hospital who came in and asked to pray with me. She knew that this was not just an operation, but was me losing my baby, something many seemed to just not understand. She gave me a very small gift, something assembled by a group of volunteers, a makeshift angel, utterly simple but somehow just enough to touch my heart and remind me that my Lord was already embracing the sweet soul I had already loved. Home again, knowing I was not pregnant now.

Over the next few days, weeks, months, my heart wrestled with so much fear. I wouldn't say I was bitter or angry or questioning the goodness of my Heavenly Father. I can understand how some would. And I've been there for other life questions. But with this, I was fearful. Fearful of the future, fearful of another loss, fearful of never being able to feel a baby kick within me again, suddenly the world was full of fears. What a tremendous opponent fear is. And in some areas of my life, I battle this daily, hourly, nightly.

But in July, I went to church one morning and heard the pastor speak on healing. Kind of a radical topic, one that could make many uncomfortable because sometimes, many times, we ask for healing and don't see it for a long time...if ever. But I realized, through an incredible tear fest (SO embarrassing - we're talkin' streamin' mascara, valleys of mismatched foundation down my cheeks...) that through it all, I realized I needed rescue from fear, healing from fear. And so I asked in my heart, prayed for healing from the sickness that only I knew about but was so contagious. There wasn't a bolt of lightning next. There wasn't a fireworks display, not even in my heart, really. But I asked. And my perspective changed. I recognized my battle.

And the next day, the Lord answered the cry of my heart with "Yes, I am giving you another baby, my child."

Photobucket

This is a picture taken just yesterday of my dear baby boy within.

He chose to show me his faithfulness through another pregnancy, one not void of opportunities to wonder, to fear, but chose to answer me yes to my plea.

But there are areas of my life I still wait for, still battle fear over. I'm young, I know, but one prayer in particular I've prayed for almost ten years now and still try to wait expectantly. But I have learned not to fear. And as I adore my daughter, my precious light, I have learned not to fear, because, truly, the love that bubbles and swirls and washes within for her...

Photobucket
Photobucket

Her innocence, her curiosity, her stubborn streak...

Photobucket

The love that makes her sweet rolly wrists kissable.

Photobucket

The love that makes her scribbles a masterpiece.

Photobucket

Photobucket

A mother's love is only a glimmer, a dim reflection of the all-encompassing, overcoming, overpowering, all forgiving reality of true Love found in Jesus.

Library Date

So when school was cancelled up again on Tuesday, the first thing that I decided was that I was taking little Ellie to the library up the street.

Photobucket

The library was my escape growing up. Pretty sure I went there daily.

Photobucket

I even knew the librarian by name...Susan.

Photobucket

Pretty sure I wanted to work at the library.

Photobucket

To walk through the aisles knowing each book was something new, something I didn't know yet...see, I had a funny thing for learning new things. Like in a wierd way. My mom had a set of 1976 encyclopedias, one for each letter of the alphabet. Except for X-Y-Z, they were combined. But, anyway, each day during our daily "quiet time" where mom could know there would be no questions, no talking, no fighting, just each of us girls on our own blanket with a set of quiet toys and books for a set amount of time, I chose the encyclopedias to hoard at my blanket. In first grade. I ate them up! When I finished those, I read the dictionary. Seriously. I was that kid. My interests have somewhat deteriorated since then; one of my favorites these days is wikipedia, but still...

But, see the problem with the library these days is that they have toys! Books lasted for a very short time before it was just play time...

Photobucket
I'll work on getting El into the encyclopedias another day...

Snow Day

Photobucket
It was just one of those days.

Photobucket
The snow gave me a day with my girls. And, yes, I did let Pippy in. This was just her morning break. It was only 2 minutes out there, tops, promise.

So I spent the day doing this.
Photobucket

But then I ended up with this.
Photobucket
Where's a husband when you need one...Geez.

But chicken pot pie? And dinner for tonight done at 9am? And three in the freezer for newborn baby days? Or for "just about had it with cooking" days? Totally worth it.

Which left me plenty of time for this.
Photobucket

And this.
Photobucket

Photobucket

And this.
Photobucket
Just chillin.

Last night I actually spent awhile contemplating my increasingly round very preggo tummy that I'm just so thankful for despite the sleepless nights, achey breaky back pain and too tight maternity pants...what a miracle I'm housing. I'm just so excited to meet my little boy. My arms are starting to feel the baby weight already, snuggled, smelling the baby skin. And with how in love I am with my first born little girl, I just can't imagine this love again. I heard it said once, having your babies is forever wearing your heart outside your body. And this is so true.

Photobucket

Oh, speaking of my my little first born, she has taken to carrying everything she owns everywhere with her. Everything as in one blanket, two babies, two dollies (yes, there is a difference), four silkies and a ballerina teddy. And believe you me, she will let you know if something is missing.

Photobucket

Photobucket
But as for today, well, it was a good day.
