Adventure

Like I mentioned last post, we got away this past weekend.
ethel

It was an adventure just getting us all to fit in our car.
roadtrippin
It's always a challenge when we all pack like women.
And then pack for the three babies as well.
And we pack them like they're women too.

See, the boys had the itch to shoot some guns.
boys
And call it a hunting trip for an excuse to just be boys.

So we convinced them to at least lodge up in the romance of the inn.
inn

They were glad they did.
dancing
As were my little ones.

The the very best part?
The multi-generation snuggles, roll rollin', cheerio-sharing, dog lickin', breakfast steamin', couch loungin' lovin' of my kin.
kin
Just another adventure tucked away in the memory books.

Tranquility

We're unpacked from an escape to tranquility this past weekend.
A tiny town tucked away
between farm land and pastures, railroad tracks and hills
the majority of the population conveniently my kin

A crowded car,
three carseats, three ladies
many more packed bags
The truck left at three in the morning with all the boys
camo and amo in tow
A stay in the bed and breakfast
recessinn
with a late night,
An earlier morning,
Plus a momma daughter walk in the tranquil quiet morning.

More to come...

Him

The day I found out I was having a boy,
I bought a little blue and grey hoodie for him that was as much boy as I could possibly find.
I was so excited to dress my little him in it.
And when he was finally here
he was so furled and curled and wrinkled and pink.
But now...
TristanMichael
Now it fits.
And my little him,
love
Oh, he's just my prayer answered,
that's all.

Angels

We unburied the nativity set the other night.
Dusted off the angels and sang the manger song.

angels

I tried to show Ellie how Joseph and Mary walked to the stable.
She said, no, the Wisemen and Jesus wanted to go to the park.

And, embracing what nearly every other student in my classroom seems look forward to the most during this season, we paid some big bucks to start another little Christmas tradition.

covers

We named him Stuart. It was going to be Howard, but Ellie couldn't pronounce that one.
And, it was a good night to introduce him to our family.
Ellie took a big old spill (like bloody nose, frozen peas and call to the doctor kind of spill...)outside and wouldn't calm down except for little Stuart. She tucked him in gently under the covers, sniffing through her swollen nose the whole time.

stuart

See, actually, in all seriousness, I've debated silly things like Stuart because I really want my children to understand the miracle more than the magic of December. I remember when I was a child, my parents finally sitting us down to explain that Santa is no more than a tradition and a celebration of giving. We all humbly accepted this realization and calmly headed to bed that late night when our somber attitudes were interrupted by a knock at our front door. We all hurried to the door to see, in head to toe red, bells and fur, a genuine white-bearded, jolly belly-ied Santa man complete with a huge sack of personalized gifts for us. Unbeknownst to my parents, a friend of the family was making rounds to all the children making Santa just a little more real to them. So, their Santa discussion took a few more years to truly get the point across to us.

But, truly, I want my little ones to know and to believe that the silent night we sing of brought us the triumph, the joy that we can now live in.... But, my husband convinced me that having a little pesky elf hiding each morning is not going to scar my little ones forever. So I believed him.

And, to prove his point, my momma heart was most blessed our Ellieboo thanked God for angels as a part of her prayer last night.

Taken

I broke out the heels for the first time since who knows when.
heels

See, it's down to just a few days now before my sweet cousin is taken.
The white is ordered, the sparkles purchased, the party planned.

So we celebrated again.
showering
We giggled, we squealed, we took pictures.
picturetaking

Her joy, her bubbly, her love...it was contagious.
joy

Sigh.
Such a blessing to celebrate her countdown to marriage.
marriage
Such a blessing to be on the other side.

Taken, that is.

Especially when I came home that night to my man scrubbing down the floors.

Yes, he's taken, ladies.
