Weekend

Our weekend started out a party
 photo party1_zpsa2e5af09.jpg
with pancakes and pajamas

(T in his fav Spiderman-jams)

(And this little cutie in his supermans)
for a little friend's third birthday.

The birthday girl's momma

did things up right
 photo party6_zps83a34771.jpg
putting her special touch on everything, including the straws.

Ellie passed little Reegan the gifts
 photo party2_zps98d395ea.jpg
and then for the rest of the weekend seemed quite interested in when HER birthday would be...

However,
the rest of the weekend
 photo sleep_zps58ef6203.jpg
looked pretty much like this as upon our return home, she promptly came down with a yucky bug.

Which gives me plenty of reason for extra snuggles.

Haircut

Sometimes mommas randomly fall a little more in love with their children.
It's happened before for me.
Okay it happens quite abit...
And it did again yesterday.

The middle man was lookin' a bit scrappy recently.
hair1
I knew he was.
And it was on my to-do list.
Really, it was.
It only took a few caring individuals to bring me to that place of realization
that it was truly time.
My hairdresser's offhand comment, "Hey, whenever he's ready to come in for a haircut, let me know!"
Followed by a friend's soft locks tossle and sweet voice, "Oh, I love his constant state of bedhead."
Followed by my dear sister's solemn intervention talk with me, "Allison, you need to cut his hair."
Followed by the suggestion, request and finally the final word from the hubs,
"I'm tired of my son looking like a hippie."
hair2
Until we finally got him in for the chop...

It's funny the things you notice when you can finally see your child's eyes, forehead,
okay,
who are we kidding,
It's funny what you notice when you can finally see your child's face.

And it's a pretty good lookin' face.
But it's funny,
hair3
I didn't even know he had that scratch across his head
probably from some tussle with someone, something,
a wall perhaps.
hair5
Who knows.
It could have been the toy (Ellie reported it was the "Narwal" from the plastic zoo set we gave them for Christmas.) he managed to wedge and lodge in his mouth while trying to impress the ladies at our playdate this week.
No kidding.
Jammed it in there, shook his head around hoping for a giggle
and then freaked at the trauma of realizing he couldn't get it out.
That's my boy.
Or,
rather,
hair4
that's my husband's boy.

Child,
you're wholly wild and wonderful,
completely creative and courageous,
equally energentic and empathetic
hair6
I think we'll keep ya.

Good

I've had a series of photos from our good life as of late and just haven't gotten a chance to actually them down with my thoughts.
 photo everyday5_zps88022689.jpg
Until now.

**Cousins**
We've not seen enough of them lately, some sick, some sequestered, but mostly all because no matter how many good times we have we always want more.
 photo play16_zps32b761a2.jpg
We keep promising, come summer time, together we'll soak up the sun good.

**The first dentist visit**
Our little lady hit this milestone a few days ago
 photo everyday8_zps5bc0d1b3.jpg
and rocked it good,
 photo everyday9_zpse4eb7e5e.jpg
every minute.
 photo everyday11_zps079c9a0a.jpg
Picked out a new toothbrush
 photo everyday12_zpsf5169a60.jpg
with an even sparkly-er smile than usual.

**Aquarium**
Nana and Papa treated us to a field trip for an early Valentine's gift.
 photo everyday3_zps3dd664e2.jpg
There's nothing like a good old family outing.
Not sure who loved it the most...
 photo everyday4_zps82e29e41.jpg
But T is probably in the lead.

**Sisters**
I spent an evening with my sissies this past week as well,
 photo everyday13_zps44bcb1ed.jpg
there's just really no one like them.
My sis cooked us a good dinner
 photo everyday14_zps3ce0b090.jpg
like only she can,
 photo everyday16_zps7fed725c.jpg
this one and I just sat back and enjoyed.
They've been my bffs, my besties,
 photo everyday18_zps5908a5bb.jpg
from the beginning,
each other's (or perhaps I should say my parents') built in chaperones for each other.
We didn't, we don't
go many places without each other.
In the college years, we rushed the whole sorority scene together,
all three
in agreement that there would be no more sacred secrets than the ones we already shared.

**Friendships**
And now, I'm watching my own children grow in their friendships these days, their confidence, their own-ness,
 photo play1_zps367f6b8e.jpg
taking in the beautiful life around them,
 photo play4_zpse4e852af.jpg
soaking in the beautiful people they've been surrounded with...
It's a joy to see.
 photo play3_zpsebc22213.jpg
I've always found such life in meeting people different and same,
learning from new friendship, from people with new journeys.
We played at a friend's house this week with more children than I can count.
 photo play2_zpsbc1b8061.jpg
Literally.
 photo play5_zps2d4c7f5d.jpg
I don't even know how many children were there.
The mommas just drank coffee (lots) and attempted to wrangle whoever was nearest.
 photo play6_zpsecd2501b.jpg
It was good.

As was another playdate from the week,
with a new family from dance class.
These little girls couldn't get enough of the Jman cuddles.
And that goes over good in our house.

**Ponderings**
As some may know, and as I've alluded to before, the last nine month have been the official beginning of a new job title for me, or rather, replacing one with another one a little more prominent.
I taught elementary years for six years and for three of these, lived the life of momma and teacher both,
the ever so present struggle between a job I chose and loved and a job I was given and loved.

There isn't a smooth way, an easy route in life,
whether as a woman, wife, momma, employee or none of the above,
 photo play12_zps8f7de7dd.jpg
hardships come and people deal,
and I think I learning this lesson loudly
while working full-time for the first several years as a mother was one of the greatest blessings.
 photo play13_zpsbf59c94c.jpg
See, there were many, many good, beautiful fruits of working full-time,
balancing my roles, my family, the dinners, my lesson planning, the cleaning, my interests, the errands, my health,
the endlessness of these priorities,
growing daily through the struggles, the hardships, the triumphs and victories.
In a way, the hubs and I established a harmony in our parenting, our marriage that might not have otherwise grown because we shared the daycare route, the pickup schedule, the juggle of whose meeting was earlier.
But this is not to say this harmony didn't blossom without moments of tremendous clashing and heartache.
 photo play15_zpse3ef81f9.jpg
And it's not to say this harmony wouldn't have been sung had I not worked...
It's simply to say it's what we needed in the season.

And, even more,
it's to say that
God
as He does, as He is,
works
together all things
for good.
And, as I am in a new season of life now
I'm ever more the thankful
for the good
 photo play11_zps5ba1095f.jpg
in every season.

Inside

We've been spending a lot of time inside these days.
Photobucket
Somedays feeling a little more cooped than others...
Photobucket
And when today started like today did
Photobucket
with two beds thrown up in and three needing stripped before 8am...
Photobucket
our afternoon needed a little razzle dazzle.
Photobucket
And so
Photobucket
the razzling and dazzling
Photobucket
commenced.
Except for this little man
Photobucket
who (as this blog so obviously seems to document) has not ever made it out of his pajamas...ever...(except for perhaps one Sunday morning church outing)
Although he seemed to enjoy the dance party
Photobucket
that topped off our afternoon inside.
Photobucket
(Please appreciate El's creative dance moves in the background.)
